    Treatment For TMJ Disorders

We see chronic TMD as a multi-factorial inflammatory and neurological disorder. Often there is a need to decompress the TMJ with various designs of oral appliances to address the TMJ pathology and remove peripheral inflammatory inputs from the body to the central nervous system (the brain). The goal of TMJ disorder treatment is to try to reduce central nervous system sensitization, as is the goal of TMJ pain treatment.

    TMJ Disorder Treatment May Include:

    • Oral appliances (orthotics)
    • Healthy diet
    • Short-term medication
    • Nasal spray therapy
    • Cold light (laser) therapy
    • Infra-red therapy
    • Manual therapy and home exercises
    • Education and postural re-training
    • Referral to other professional healthcare providers
